Curriculum: The curriculum of MBBS is divided into three phases:

  1. Pre-Clinical Phase: This includes the first two semesters and focuses on the basic sciences related to medicine.
  2. Para-Clinical Phase: This phase includes the next three semesters, where students learn about the applied aspects of the medical sciences.
  3. Clinical Phase: The final phase includes four semesters focusing on clinical subjects and practical exposure.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the MBBS course in India, candidates must fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Educational Qualification:
    • Candidates must have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as subjects.
    • They must have secured a minimum aggregate of 50% marks (40% for reserved categories) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology.
  2. Age Limit:
    • The minimum age limit for candidates is 17 years as of December 31 of the year of admission.
    • There is no upper age limit as per the latest guidelines.
  3. Entrance Examination:
    • Candidates must qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). NEET-UG is the sole entrance examination for admission to MBBS courses in India.

The MBBS syllabus in India is comprehensive and covers various subjects across the three phases mentioned above:

Pre-Clinical Phase:

Para-Clinical Phase:

  • Pathology
  • Pharmacology
  • Microbiology
  • Forensic Medicine
  • Community Medicine

Clinical Phase:

  • General Medicine

Fees

The fee structure for the MBBS course in India varies significantly based on the type of institution (government or private). Here is an overview:

  1. Government Medical Colleges:
    • The fees in government medical colleges are relatively low and can range from INR 10,000 to INR 50,000 per year. These colleges are subsidized by the government, making education more affordable.
  2. Private Medical Colleges:
    • Fees in private medical colleges are considerably higher and can range from INR 2 lakhs to INR 20 lakhs per year, depending on the institution. Some premier private colleges may charge even higher.
  3. Deemed Universities:
    • Deemed universities, which are privately managed, have their fee structures that may range from INR 5 lakhs to INR 25 lakhs per year.

Admission Process

The admission process for MBBS in India generally follows these steps:

  1. Qualify NEET-UG:
    • Candidates must appear for and qualify the NEET-UG exam with a good score to be eligible for counseling and admission.
  2. Counseling Process:
    • The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) conducts counseling for 15% All India Quota seats, while state authorities conduct counseling for the remaining 85% state quota seats.
  3. Seat Allotment:
    • Based on NEET-UG scores, candidates are allotted seats in medical colleges during the counseling sessions. Candidates must choose their preferred colleges and courses during the counseling.
  4. Document Verification:
    • After seat allotment, candidates must go through a document verification process and submit necessary documents, including mark sheets, NEET scorecard, identity proof, and other required certificates.
  5. Fee Payment and Admission:
    • Upon successful document verification, candidates must pay the admission fees to confirm their seat and complete the admission process.
