Delhi University PhD Admission 2024: Following the issuance of a notification by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Delhi University has announced modifications to its PhD admission process. DU has also released a notification regarding this matter. According to DU’s Admission Branch, the university has declared that admissions to PhD programs will now be based on National Eligibility Test (NET) scores. The notification suggests that the university may conduct separate examinations for subjects not covered by the UGC NET and for courses conducted within the university. Information bulletins for PhD admissions will be uploaded on the university’s official website (www.admission.uod.ac.in).
DU has endorsed the entrance rules for this session in alignment with UGC guidelines. As per the directives, students with Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) qualifications will be eligible to apply directly for PhD admissions, and they will also be eligible to apply for Assistant Professor positions. Admission to PhD programs for JRF-qualified students will be solely based on a 100% interview. NET-qualified candidates will have their NET scores weighted at 70% and their interview at 30% for PhD admissions and Assistant Professor appointments. In addition, Delhi University has made revisions to its academic calendar. DU has reduced the duration of the summer vacation, which previously spanned from June 7th to July 21st, now condensed to June 14th to July 21st. Several faculty members have criticized this decision by the university. Nevertheless, DU Registrar Vikas Gupta has asserted that this change has been implemented in the students’ best interests. Given the ongoing examinations and the need for copy evaluation during this period, this adjustment was deemed necessary.
